Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review for, The Names of God, by Marilyn Hickey.
Our review for June is the chapter for the name, Jehovah Rophe, which means, my healer.
Every chapter of this books speaks to me - what about you?
Marilyn uses Exodus 3:14 to illustrate how God is everything we need. What you need is exactly what I am. How powerful is that?!
Marilyn encourages us not to stagnate in our study of the Bible and to remember how God was with the children of Israel as a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night - ever present. Just like He is for us.
We are reminded of past strong men of faith like Abraham, David and Hezekiah. I like the reminder of how Moses prayed for his sister, Miriam, after she complained about him (Numbers 12:9-13). God brought healing to Miriam’s affliction and healed Moses as he was able to prayer for her, even though she had ganged up against him and questioned his authority.
I also like the reminder of how Jesus quoted Isaiah 61:1-2 about His purpose here on earth (Luke 9:18-19)
Luke 9:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
This chapter points to the power we have in the Bible and prayer. It assures us through scripture that we are not alone. We have the God of the universe as our father!
