Book Review: The Names of God by Marilyn Hickey (Jehovah Tsebaoth)
Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review for, The Names of God, by Marilyn Hickey.
Our review for December is the chapter for the name Jehovah Tsebaoth, which means the Lord of Hosts.
This is another jaw dropping chapter, which is hard to encapsulate in a review. There are so many references and witness statements of the power of the Lord of Hosts. I really have not thought about the Lord of Hosts in this manner, even though Psalm 46 is one of my favorite psalms.
I really like how Marilyn describes how she imagines the different hosts in every aspect of her life and her family for that matter. What a powerful witness!
There are many stories of miracles - it is such a humbling chapter to listen to.
It is good to be reminded of 1 Samuel 17:47 - the battle is the Lord’s, but we are also reminded that we are part of His elite army, His saints, which offer full service under His command. Once in a while, we need to be reminded to lift our heads - after all, we belong to the Lord of Hosts. Amen.
As I mentioned, the chapter is packed with references from the Bible, including another favourite psalm of mine: Psalm 34:7 - The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Amen.
There is not much more to say, other than, read or listen to this chapter if you have the book and if you don’t, The Names of God by Marilyn Hickey, should be at the top of your book purchase list.
Maybe there is one more thing to say. I will leave you with Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,Who has made desolations in the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;He burns the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth!
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Our next book review will be at the end of January.
