Book Review: The Names of God (Jehovah Gmolah)
Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review for, The Names of God, by Marilyn Hickey.
Our review for February is the chapter for the name Jehovah Gmolah, which means, the Lord who rewards.
Marilyn uses Moses as an example of choosing to follow God instead of worldly power, and receiving a reward from the Lord, which outweighs any temporary reward we can get from this world.
Marilyn shares a powerful Bible verse from Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
I appreciate that Marilyn goes into great detail about rewards and vengeance and that both belong to the Lord, referring to Deuteronomy 32:35,41 and 43 and Romans 12:19.
Another example given was the book of Ruth. Ruth’s commitment to the God of Israel is highlighted. I know from personal experience that committing to the Lord has resulted in being rewarded with his presence, protection and provision. Marilyn mentioned that whenever you commit to the Lord, you will have a time of testing that follows. I too have experienced this, many a time. James 4:8 promises, Come near to God and he will come near to you.
One of the last sections is about the blessing of our families, by following the family structure God intended for us. Wonderful verses from Colossians 3:18-24 are referenced.
This chapter is a wonderful reminder that we look to one place for our provisions, rewards, justice - everything we need. We look to God, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Our next book review will be at the end of March.
Thank you for reading this review. Until next time - peace be with you.
