Film Review: Amazing Love (based on the Book of Hosea)

This week’s review is for the film, Amazing Love, based on the Book of Hosea, This film is written by Dave and Rich Christiano.

Description

Teen friends, Steve, Carrie, Cooper, and Gameboy embark on a weekend camping trip lead by their church youth group leader Stuart and his wife Beth. Joining them is an outsider Ashley, a self-involved rich kid, whose attitude causes a major commotion within the group, specifically between her and Carrie. Before it gets too out of hand though, Stuart takes this opportunity to share with the kids the incredibly, powerful, biblical story of Hosea; a story of immovable faith, impeccable commitment, and impervious love.

It was powerful to revisit Hosea after spending a year reading about the prophets in the Bible and listening to the audio book, The Twelve, by Parker Bradley. You can listen to those book reviews via the True to the Word podcast.

Amazing Love has a declaration right in the beginning, about the group leader, setting the scene for the teenagers to understand a bit more - but the extra information he provides about Hosea and his wife, Gomer, is not from the Bible. So with that said, the film can be appreciated for its message.

The film portrays the powerful book of Hosea very well, thereby having a huge impact on the viewer. I have watched this film multiple times and have found it equally engaging. It inspired me to go back and listen to the book of Hosea again.

God’s work through Hosea was amazing, as God’s love is incomprehensible. I am truly thankful to our Heavenly Father for His powerful Word, both in the book, and in the flesh of Jesus Christ.

I encourage you to watch Amazing Love, and more importantly, read or listen to the Book of Hosea.
