If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled with the knowledge of who God calls you to be, through Jesus Christ.

This week’s review is for the film, Discarded Things.

Description

When the life of Grace Wyatt, an esteemed music professor, is disrupted by the tragic loss of her husband Eric, Grace retreats to substance abuse as a way to cope with her grief. Tossed out of her lavish academic world and finally at rock-bottom, Grace seeks help from a Christian recovery center.

For some reason, I didn’t make notes for this film - which is quite unusual for me.  This film will speak to each and every one of us, because no matter what upbringing we had or are going through,  it falls short of the environment in the eternal life God wants for us.

This film focuses on who we want to define us - the world or Jesus.  It shows many examples of how the world tries to define us by the hurt sin causes. But, thanks be to God, the light of Jesus Christ shines through, as this film shows who we need to rely on and who our identity and value rests in.

In the middle of the film, a verse from the book of Isaiah was read:

Lift up your eyes and look around;

all your children gather and come to you.

As surely as I live,” declares the Lord,

“you will wear them all as ornaments;

 you will put them on, like a bride.

Isaiah 49:18

The scene in which this verse was read, shows how the word of God is relevant to our lives today and how daily Bible reading, prayer and reliance on Jesus is a lifeline for us.  The film also lifts up that every aspect of our life - our family, homes, jobs, activities, etc. must all be centered on Jesus.  Our lives as Christians cannot be compartmentalized.

This film brought tears to my eyes, not only because of the devastating pain of sin, but because of the Blessed Hope, Jesus Christ, who is the answer to it all - and the good news is, He is coming back soon to renew all things.

In the mean time, the Bible says: Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

I watched, Discarded Things, on the RedeemTV streaming channel.

Thank you reading this review.  Until next time - peace be with you.
