Film Review: The Forge
If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled with the grace of God to stand in your faith.
This week’s review is for the film, The Forge.
Description
Isaiah Wright has some growing up to do. A year out of high school with no plans for his future, Isaiah is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and biblical discipleship from his new mentor, Isaiah begins to discover God’s purpose for his life is so much more than he could hope for or imagine. From the Kendrick Brothers, the creators of the No. 1 hit WAR ROOM, comes THE FORGE, a faith-filled new movie with old friends and inspiring new twists.
By God’s grace the Kendrick Brothers have done it again. As with their other films, The Forge, is a strong, faith-based film about the command Jesus gave us in Mattnew 28:18-20: And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
This film, realistically depicts how we have to die to ourselves, in order to be disciples of Jesus Christ - giving God the permission to increase our faith, through the difficult process of testing our faith.
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4
6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7
There are plenty of examples for the testing of faith in the Old Testament, starting with Adam and Eve.
As well as lifting up the importance of discipleship and the testing of our faith, The Forge, also focuses on the importance of Christian fellowship, by showing us a great example - the members and activity of a Christian small group called, The Forge.
The Bible is clear about the importance of fellowship and being part of the church - the body of Christ, with accountability.
Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.. Hebrews 10:24-25.
There is so much more to say about The Forge and I will no doubt watch it several times, just like the other films by the Kendrick brothers.
Like all of their films, there were funny moments, but their message, as usual, is very clear, rooted in the Bible and an inspiration to open our hearts to be ready and be part of the process of making others ready for Jesus Christ’s return. Amen.
I bought, The Forge, on ViaPlay, where it is available to rent or purchase. These options are also available on the website to the Kendrick brothers - www.kendrickbrothers.com
