My Ray of Hope
Produced by Mario, Natasha Broussard and Anthony Hackett
The documentary, with some reenactment, is about a Christian couple who lose their second child, a baby girl, due to health complications, a short time after her birth.
Which commandments did I reflect on during the film?
I reflected on the first commandment to acknowledge God as the only God. This documentary was God centered, showing how Mario and Natasha acknowledged God and leaned on Him for doctrine, wisdom, peace, support, grace, mercy - in every aspect.
I was reminded of the third commandment, not to take the Lord’s name is vain, when Mario was testifying at his church, saying that he didn’t talk about God being there out of routine - his faith was real. His testimony about how the Lord swooped in to support them during each step in the difficult process is very powerful. Mario quoted from Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
What Christian standards did I Reflect on during the film?
Scripture Alone - A powerful testimony how Mario and Natasha relied on God’s promises through His Word. Mario refers to some people thinking he is foolish to believe in a God he cannot see, and refers to God’s promise that Jesus will return - and he will be able to get all of the answers to everything that didn’t make sense on this earth. It’s a wonderful testimony to how we can believe and hold onto the Word of God, through faith and embrace that it is true and sure. It’s also a wonderful testimony on the powerful relationship we can develop with God the Father, through Jesus Christ.
Salvation Through Christ - Mario speaks of thousands of people from various countries gathered together under the banner of Jesus Christ in hope, prayers and support of their family. It’s a testimony that there is comfort when we have Jesus as our Saviour and Father God to take us through the difficult life on this earth.
I am reminded of a biblical marriage where one or both partners have God at the centre of their union and have prayer as their foundation for their decision making.
The documentary was a testimony to the man being the spiritual leader of his household, with Mario relying on God for his every need and leading his household by his strong faith. Mario mentions that he had made his peace, by the time he was given his daughter to hold, for the last time. This reminds me of Philippians 4:6-7: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Mario and Natasha’s approach to their pain is a testimony that while there are many things on this earth that we don’t understand, God is sovereign and deserves glory, honour and thanks no matter what the season. Satan will try and wreck our faith with fear, pain and destruction, but our loving Father gives us countless promises through His Word and answers our prayers according to His perfect Will. And when his answers don’t coincide with our wishes, He gives us the strength and peace we need. Psalm 29:11 - May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless His people with peace.
How did the documentary encourage my faith?
This documentary is a testimony to the power of faith, love and hope, under God’s grace. It’s a testimony to the strength, peace and love God provides His people, when we seek him. Jeremiah 29:13 - and you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Were there any scenes that caught my attention?
Mario’s statement to the congregation in his church: We aren’t the only people to lose a baby - but you treated us as if we were. That is a wonderful testimony of the love and support of church sisters and brothers.
Natasha’s statement about what helped her through the difficult process - refraining from asking why, because the answer would not have been good enough. I am reminded of where we see the answers for the state of the world. Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork. Romans 1:20 - 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,” Nature tells us that there is a God, but only the Word of God (Genesis 3) tells us about sin and how the temptation of Adam and Eve led to sin coming into the world and creating the pain and destruction we see all around. But there is hope, because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Revelation 21 describes a New Jerusalem, a renewed world that we will live in with God the Father and Jesus, His Son, for an eternity. Where there is no more death, sorrow, nor crying (Revelation 21:4). There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. The apostle John, who had the vision described in the Book of Revelation was told to write the vision down, for these words are true and faithful (Revelation 21:5). Amen.
A Ray of Hope & Love, Inc was founded in 2020 by Mario and Natasha Broussard, after the loss of their seven day old daughter, Brayleigh. This non-profit raises awareness on infant mortality, as well as the mental and emotional health within grieving communities.
