Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review. The review for October is, A Day to Remember, by Vincent Wisely.

Description

A concise explanation of the eternal relevance of the seventh day of creation.

A look at modern Christianity's peculiar rebellion against God's central commandment of love and relationship. The modern (and eternal) relevance of God's Sabbath day is stated plainly within the inspired scriptures. But yet, modern Christianity chooses either to ignore this plain truth or keep it buried underneath centuries of man-made tradition.

There are generally three categories of Christians relative to this scriptural truth: Those who have never heard of or considered it in conjunction with their Christian lives; those who have considered it but choose either to rebel against it or remain indifferent to it; and, those who have embraced it with a heart of love and gratitude toward God. Into which category do you fall?

My Review

I wrote a review on Vincent Wisely’s book, Sabbath Light, five years ago. I have not compared these two books, so I don’t know the differences, however, since it’s been so long since I read Sabbath Light, it was refreshing to listen to, A Day to Remember. When I read Sabbath Light, a big man-made holiday was approaching. A similar situation has arisen this time too, except that the approaching holiday does not dress itself in the pretense of honouring Jesus. This one shows off its dark, carnal nature and is very popular amongst children too. Lord have mercy!

As I sit here, on the Sabbath, it’s absolutely wonderful to listen to the thorough research of Bible verses that Wisely has done to explain why the Sabbath will never change from the 7th day (Saturday). Although I did my own research back in 2015, and was convicted by God through the results, Vincent’s research has more depth. It just goes to show you don’t have to dig that deep to find the truth. You just have to read the Bible.

I have often wondered and prayed over why so many Christians refuse to see the obvious four commandment. Vincent Wisely reflects over what some of these reasons might be, but is very clear none of them can be based on the Law being changed in scripture - as it clearly has not been, since God’s Law is eternal.

I really appreciated how Wisely reiterated the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice and God’s eternal law. Jesus died for us, because God’s Law is eternal and we stand judged by it, if we stand by ourselves. However, if we accept Jesus’ sacrifice, then He covers our transgression from the Law. The point is, the Law is eternal - it has never and can never be changed. That’s why God gave His Son Jesus. Praise the LORD!

This book is extensive, informative and challenges us to move closer to God by studying His Word, with a humble heart, in addition to truly recognizing and accepting the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, that did not abolish the perfect, eternal law of God - but established and magnified it. Thank you, Jesus!

A Day to Remember, challenges us to recognize the only commandment that starts with, “Remember” in a culture that has accepted that God’s holy day is on the first day of the week, with no scriptural basis.
