Hello everyone, welcome to our monthly book review. The review for July is actually my testimony based of the book I recently read - Radical Protection by Pastor Derek J. Morris.
Radical Protection is a six-chapter book, that is spiritually loaded with testimonies, scripture and practical advice on how we can use the resources God has given us, to be protected in the spiritual battle.
In my previous review, I said that I would use the next book review, to comment on the group study questions that were at the end of the book. However, instead, I feel impressed to share my testimony on how this book has impacted my life.
In my previous review, I said:
The book is compelling, powerful and inspiring. It encouraged me to up my game, by doing the following.
Write down scripture songs I already had in my head, in order to sing a different one, each day, before grace at dinner time. I was actually amazed at the number of scripture verses I have in my memory! This is thanks to Hope Sabbath School Bible lessons, listening to Sabbath Radio and singing or listening to scripture songs.
Dedicate the time to learn a new scripture verse each week. I have a copy of the verse/s I want to learn, in several rooms in my home and available on my phone, so that I can practise when walking to and from work.
I have continued to do these two things (except I say the verses at the dinner table, as opposed to singing them). As a result, I have learned seven pieces of new scripture in the past month!
I don’t know about you, but I have always had a hard time learning things by heart. In school, we had to learn poetry and as a punishment for not reciting it back correctly, my English teacher would give me lines. This is where you would have to write a sentence the teacher chose, the amount of times the teacher decided. For example, I shall learn my next poetry assignment by heart - written 100 times. This had the opposite effect. It made me more nervous about messing up my poetry recital in class and resentful for the amount of time wasted, at home, writing a sentence 100 times.
I watched a film a year or so ago, where some students learned Psalm 19:7-11, by heart and remember wishing I could do the same, as I love those verses.
Well, after listening to Radical Protection and incorporating those two strategies, under prayer - God has given me the grace to learn scripture with and without melody. Simply amazing! I learn new scripture starting each Sabbath. Praise the Lord! It is such a wonderful feeling to hear new verses from the word of God being spoken by my lips, because it is hidden in my heart.
I will leave you with those wonderful verses from Psalm 19:7-11, which I just wrote down, by heart.
The Law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever.
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desire are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them your servant is warned and in keeping them, there is great reward.
I downloaded Radical Protection, free of charge, via Hope Sabbath’s school’s website. You can also buy it through Trilogy Scripture Resources.
I pray this resource also helps you hide the word of God in your heart.
Thank you for reading this review.
Until next time, God’s peace be with you.
