This week’s review is for the documentary, Breaking the Silence - My Amish Story

Description

THE AMISH: From the outside they all look the same, and yet each Amish person has their own story. Discover their stories. Six episodes, approximately 42 minutes each.

EPISODE ONE: The Secret Strength of the Amish Church

A rare inside view of an Amish church service and the inner workings of the Amish culture.

EPISODE TWO: Silencing the Grabers

The story of Lester & Rebecca Graber, an Amish minister who began to read and study the Bible.

EPISODE THREE: An Amish Romance

The story of three people who left the Amish—Joe from Ohio, Sam from Indiana, and Polly from Missouri.

EPISODE FOUR: Birth of the Amish Church

Where did the Amish come from and how does their story fit into the Reformation Era?

EPISODE FIVE: Amish In Our Midst

Frequently asked questions about the Amish including some little known facts about the Amish Church and culture.

EPISODE SIX: Our Amish Heritage: Silent No More

Many people who have come out of the Amish struggle with reconciling their past to their new lives on the outside. If their heritage rejects them, is it still their heritage?

I watched all six episodes in a row. I have heard of the Amish culture, and seen a few interviews with people who have left and the devastating consequences they experienced, for seeking the truth. Breaking the Silence was interesting because it also gave a history of the Amish, which contained information I did not know.

This series reminded me of some things Jesus said.

Matthew 19:29, And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

The hope that came from the people who had left, outweighed the dismal spiritual plight the people who remain are subjected to. They are a testimony that God sees each and every one of us and promises, in His word, to be found when we seek Him with all our hearts. And how do we seek him? Through Jesus. In John 14:6, Jesus said - I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.

This series gives us a glimpse of the fierce spiritual battle we are living in. But thanks be to God, Jesus Christ is coming back soon, to reign forever! Hallelujah!

Thank you for reading this review. Until next time - peace be with you.
