If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled the knowledge of who Jesus Christ is.
This week’s review is for the series, Christianity Explored. Episode: Who is Jesus?
Description
Christianity Explored is a ten-week course that introduces people to Christianity using the Gospel of Mark as its basis. Written by Rico Tice and Barry Cooper and originally run as a course at All Souls Church, Langham Place in London -- where it is still in use -- this widely-used course aims to introduce people to Jesus as they read the gospel of Mark -- who he is, why he came and what it means to follow him.
Rico Tice continues this wonderful series, that uses the book of Mark, a first hand, eyewitness account of Jesus, to describe who Jesus Christ is.
This is a powerful study, revealing five major pillars of authority Jesus has, that proves his identity as the Son of God.
Power and authority to teach (based on Mark 1:22, 1:27). I really like how Rico used a personal example to emphasis that Jesus practised what he preached
Power and authority to heal (based on Mark 1:29-31, 1:34, 1:40-42). Rico mentioned an important point: People were healed physically and spiritually (Mark 1:23-26).
Power and authority over nature (based on Mark 4:37-39, 4:41). This reminds me of John 1:1-3 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Power and authority over death (based on Mark 5:21-23, 5:35-42). Rico makes a memorable statement. It is as easy for Jesus to arouse someone from death as it is for us to arouse someone from sleep.
Power and authority to forgive sins (based on Mark 2:1-12). I like how Rico speaks about the lack of sting sin has nowadays and how people have to realize that sin is man’s biggest problem, by far. This makes me think how this all fits into the salvation plan, through Jesus Christ, who came to save us from sin, which separates us from God. Rico gives a sobering warning - ignoring God, living independent from God, will lead to eternal death.
Rico has many good reflective questions, the last one being: Will we recognize Jesus’ identity now while we have the chance, or later when it is too late?
My daily Bible verse today is from Psalm 85:2 - You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. Selah
Thank you, Father, in Jesus’ name.
Thank you for reading this review. Until next time, peace be with you.
