If you are reading this review on the Sabbath, then I would like to wish you a Sabbath filled with the certainty of what God is calling you to do, for His glory.
This week’s review is for the documentary: The Incredible Journey - Florence Nightingale: The Lady with the Lamp.
Description
Florence Nightingale was born into a life of wealth and privilege, in an age when women were expected to simply marry, have children and not do much else. But in response to a call from God, Florence dedicated her life to helping the sick – unheard of in Victorian England. In the Crimean War, she saved countless lives and came back a hero, sought after by royalty and governments around the world. Florence Nightingale dedicated her life to establishing the modern profession of nursing. She was motivated by the teachings of the Bible and her love for God. Her story inspires us to return to the Word of God and challenges us to rediscover God’s purpose for our lives.
In May and June of this year, I did reviews for the series Christianity Explored by Gary Kent. We meet Gary again, in this documentary about the life of Florence Nightingale and he does another good job in focusing on the Lord in the middle of this remarkable account. He also points out that Florence gave the glory to God.
Gary also points out, quite rightly, that opposition swiftly comes to the servants who are doing the Lord’s work, and gives us remarkable details how Florence Nightingale was blessed by God’s grace to overcome the obstacles.
It’s a remarkable story that reminds me of a Bible verse I have recently learned by heart. This God - His way is perfect. The Word of the Lord proves true. He is a shield for all of those who take refuge in Him. 2 Samuel 22:31.
This documentary clearly shows how Florence Nightingale took refuge in the Lord, in order to be a faithful servant in what Gary Kent referred to as difficult conditions and trying circumstances.
I admire that Gary pointed out the Christian roots in this account. For example, I had no idea that the founder of the Red Cross was influenced by the work of Florence Nightingale. Praise the LORD!
This fairly short documentary packs in a lot of information about the Crimean war and the life of Florence Nightingale that refreshed my memory and gave me information I didn’t know.
I enjoyed it so much, I watched it twice in a row and the day after.
Thank you for reading to this review. Until next time - peace be with you.
